Background: The Robb Elementary Video Release Controversy
Page’s departure from the Uvalde Police Department occurred during an administrative review involving video evidence from the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting.
Following litigation seeking public access to records, the City of Uvalde released investigative materials and police recordings in August 2024.
The release followed legal action involving multiple government agencies and media organizations seeking records associated with the shooting response.
Shortly after the August release, Uvalde police officials discovered that certain recordings had not been included in the materials provided.
According to the department’s statements reported by KSAT, Police Chief Homer Delgado ordered an audit of department servers after an officer reported that part of a body-worn camera recording was missing.
The audit identified additional video footage that had not been released.
On September 11, 2024, the Uvalde Police Department announced that an employee had been placed on paid administrative leave while disciplinary proceedings remained pending.
The department did not initially publicly identify the employee.
The City of Uvalde subsequently confirmed to KSAT that the employee was Sgt. Donald Page.
Page’s retirement became effective September 13, 2024.
Although various reports have described his departure as a resignation, the city characterized it as a retirement. Page’s attorney also described the separation as a retirement in reporting published by ProPublica and The Texas Tribune.
Additional Robb Elementary Videos Released in October 2024
The missing recordings became part of a broader public-records controversy surrounding the law enforcement response to the school shooting.
On October 8, 2024, Uvalde officials released additional recordings that had not been included in the earlier disclosure.
According to KSAT, the release contained 48 videos, including 11 body-camera recordings.
The additional material was discovered following the department’s review of its records and storage systems.
Reporting published by ProPublica and The Texas Tribune stated that city officials found no evidence of an intentional effort to withhold the recordings.
The city also acknowledged problems involving record management and technology and indicated that steps were being taken to prevent similar omissions.
The administrative questions surrounding the video release are distinct from evaluations of individual officers’ conduct during the original shooting response.

What Investigators Previously Determined About Page’s Response
Page was among the hundreds of law enforcement personnel who responded to Robb Elementary School on May 24, 2022.
The gunman killed 19 students and two teachers before law enforcement officers confronted and killed him more than 77 minutes after the attack began.
A city-commissioned investigation into the law enforcement response, released in March 2024, examined the conduct of Uvalde Police Department personnel.
According to KSAT’s reporting on the investigation, independent investigator Jesse Prado determined that Page’s actions during the response did not demonstrate wrongdoing or a violation of departmental policy.
Prado’s assessment indicated that Page proceeded toward the location of the shooter, had only a partial view of Room 112, and participated in evacuating children from other classrooms.
These findings concerned Page’s actions during the May 2022 incident, not the separate administrative matter involving the release of video recordings in 2024.
The city-commissioned investigation’s conclusions should not be interpreted as resolving every question surrounding the broader multiagency response to the shooting.
Real County Sheriff’s Office Announces Hiring
Sheriff Nathan T. Johnson announced Page’s appointment on October 4, 2026.
The announcement confirmed Page’s return to county law enforcement after his previous employment with the Winters Police Department.
KSAT reported on October 8 that it had contacted the Real County Sheriff’s Office requesting additional information or comment regarding the hiring.
At the time of that report, the news organization had not received a response.
The available reporting does not establish whether the sheriff’s office conducted any particular additional review of Page’s 2024 administrative history as part of the hiring process.
No conclusions about the department’s hiring procedures can be drawn from the absence of that information.
