A family in Corpus Christi is considering legal action after a police welfare check involving their teenage daughter escalated into a use-of-force incident that was captured on home surveillance video.
According to the family, the incident occurred last Sunday after a younger sibling contacted the Corpus Christi Police Department out of concern that teenage family member Aslyn West might harm herself.
Crystal and Caleb West said officers responded to their home for what began as a mental health-related welfare check. According to Caleb West, the situation escalated within approximately two minutes of officers arriving.
Surveillance Video Shows Physical Encounter
Home surveillance footage, which has since circulated on social media, appears to show a verbal confrontation between an officer and Aslyn West inside the residence.
The video reportedly includes raised voices and profanity before an officer appears to physically restrain West and forcefully push her into a kitchen counter.
According to Caleb West, his wife witnessed the encounter remotely through the family’s security camera system.
The footage later shows Aslyn West being escorted from the residence with visible facial injuries, including what appeared to be a bloody nose and bruising around one eye.
