Robert Seminary ran his campaign for the Village of Round Lake Park on a strong sentiment of anti-nepotism when he took on incumbent Linda Lucassen and when he won the race for mayor in the 2025 election, he promised, “I’m going to do what no Mayor has done before I have a vision for this town and I’m not gonna let anybody stand in my way… I believe in trust. So I expect there will be obstacles in life, but I’m gonna continue to move forward. Never forget, I’m a man of my word.”
A few short weeks have gone by and Seminary is up against his biggest challenge, which could make or break his word and integrity, as he addresses the internal allegations of nepotism, police brutality cover ups and corruption from within the Round Lake Park Police Department, challenging Seminary to be a man of his word or fall into political cronyism just a few breaths of swearing his oath.
The Round Lake Park Police Department has been subject of police corruption for many years and has been in the media spotlight since the days of former Police Chief George Filenko and his connection to the Fox Lake Police scandal of Charles, G.I. Joe Gliniewicz where the Fox Lake Police lieutenant killed himself after a two month manhunt for three “cop killers” exposed they never existed at all and the highest level of cover up any death investigation in Lake County Illinois had ever seen led the town into darkness.
Filenko’s legacy will forever be tainted and tied to the torture and false confession of Melissa Calusinski and Marni Yang. Both women were harassed, abused and coerced into confessing to murders that evidence years later proves they did not commit, by Filenko, in order for him to bolster his investigation closure rate of major crimes in Lake County, securing his status into the highest ranked police command positions in the county. Unchallenged and unquestioned, George Filenko went from being a police dispatcher, who was sued for harassment, to a part time police officer who was appointed to Commander of Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and the Chief of Police for the Village of Round Lake Park.
Filenko ran a police department based off of manipulation, fear and such intense Machiavellian tactics that would have made the master manipulator himself sit and take notes and now it is his replacement’s turn to possibly be doing the same.
The following is an open post on public social media platforms from former Round Lake Park Police Officer Dominick Izzo, accusing the current Chief of Police Dan Burch and the Deputy Chief of Police Ala Dynak, involved in an alleged inapropriate relationship and a possible cover up of a violation of Illinois State Law 720 ILCS 5/7-5.5 Prohibited use of force by a peace officer.
“New Mayor Robert H. Seminary any insight as to how this police officer, Ala Dynak, went from brand new police officer in 2018 (who apparently was cut short from FTO due to lack of manpower) all the way up to Deputy Chief of Police in less than 7 years?
