Officer Taisyn Crutchfield, her social media behavior and how she sued her own department

THE FACTS:

Officer Taisyn Crutchfield is a police officer with the Pasadena Police Department in California. She joined the department in 2021 after earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminology, with additional academic work in psychology and social behavior.

In 2023, Crutchfield became the center of media attention after she was placed on administrative leave and later had her probation extended following an on-duty incident. In that incident she intervened to de-escalate a confrontation between a fellow officer and civilians, which she viewed as consistent with statewide police training.

Crutchfield filed a racial discrimination and retaliation lawsuit against the Pasadena Police Department and the City of Pasadena, alleging that she was subjected to disparate treatment because of her race and punished for her actions in the encounter. The lawsuit also raises broader claims about discriminatory practices within the department.

As of the most recent reports, Crutchfield remains an active patrol officer while her legal case proceeds through the courts.

THE OPINIONS:

Crutchfield’s online, juvenile and irresponsible behavior indicates she not only does not take the profession of being a police officer seriously, focusing more time on her social media and dating life, she also might have not understood the application of police tactics she observed, being an extremely new and unseasoned police officer, instead calling what she experienced, “racism” or discrimination.

I reached out to Officer Crutchfield for an interview and she declined.
