This was my email request to Chief of Police Grice for the Clover Police Department. I doubt I will get a response over this incident.
Clover Police Department Chief Grice,
I am requesting a statement or official response to the recent media attention your police department had gained with the Augusta GA Chick Fi La incident in the recent past.
My question is, there have been multiple news reports on this where Sgt Reid claims there was credible and factual evidence of a racial bias that was committed (an absolute and not just a perception) against him, by the staff at the Augusta GA Chick Fi La location and it was verified by Sgt Barnett and Sgt Gordon.
All three of your Sergeants gave media interviews to WSOCTV9 and used their credibility as sworn police officers to express their outrage and their expertise as witnesses to accuse the Augusta Chick Fi La staff of racism, including a written demand letter from your Sergeants to the restaurant chain for proper training to be conducted on the staff for racial bias. This report was released to the public, for consumption and we now have permanent record of the members of the Clover Police Department stating it is FACT that the staff at the Augusta GA Chick-fil-A location are racists.
A news report by WBJF shows Sgt Reid in a vehicle, giving an interview, and stating information that it was a separate employee who interacted with Sgt Reid and completed his transaction with him and NOT the original employee who was involved with the other Sergeants and their meal transactions.
My question is why did Sgt Reid nor Sgt Barnett nor Sgt Gordon not give this information when they were all formally and initially interviewed by WSOCTV9? Why was this specific information not issues or given to the public when this story was first released and became a national story? Did Sergeants Ried, Barnett and Gordon purposely collude to leverage their police authority and the public condemnation over racism to obtain free meals or discounts or any other donations or gratuities from Chick Fi La or any other local restaurant or business? Were they trained or instructed by yourself or the Clover Police Department in tactics to do so?
Does the Clover Police Department formally train police officers and sergeants to purposely leave out evidence and facts when giving testimony? Is it Clover Police policy to give press releases and incriminate members of the public without doing a complete investigation or issuing full statements of facts which pertain to the incident? Is it policy to purposely mislead and lie to the public, via media, in order to gain police support or discounts on Chick Fi La product or service or any local business or service?
Is it the policy of the Clover Police and your office to leverage police titles and public trust to vilify businesses and attack the credibility of members of the public, including accusations of racism, in order to attain public support and free meals or merchandize from local businesses or services?
And is it the policy of Clover Police to issue demand letters for training from corporations or private businesses, for Clover Police needs and using the position of being a sworn police officer as leverage to exert your agency’s will to accomplish your or your officers’ needs?
Have you issued a public statement as Chief of Police for the Clover Police department to the staff of the Augusta Chick Fi La location to offer support for one of their employees being targeted and accused as being factually racist to your police officer and what is your statement in regard to the formal training you will issue your officers now on how to properly identify facts and evidence, how to give media interviews without misleading or lying to the community and how to include all information in testimony as a sworn police officer in the future?
And will you be auditing any of the arrests, citations, cases and investigations that Sergeants Reid, Barnett and Gordon have worked on to determine if they have manipulated, falsified or lied about any evidence or facts in order to attain police agenda, or violated any Constitutional rights of any citizen(s) they have been in contact with.
I will be doing a feature article and video reported story on this and am requesting your formal statement in answering these questions.
Respectfully,
Dominick Izzo
